Hear Him!

Hearken means: -

  • Hear
  • Listen
  • Understand
  • Obey

An example of this can be found in the story of the Mount of Transfiguration.

Read Mark 9:2-27

Jesus was only able to take 3 of His disciples up this mountain to experience the awesome revelation of His transfiguration.

Why did He only take 3 and not all 12?

Prayer – Father God, grant me a heart that desires your presence above all other things, in Jesus Name.

In this awesome experience, God the Father spoke only one sentence V7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, this is my beloved son: hear Him.

3 disciples - These were the disciples that had drawn closest to Him and He entrusted to them this revelation and understanding of future events.

It was not easy to live close to Jesus, it took great courage and faith to walk in His footsteps.

They listened to Jesus and asked Him questions about some of the revelations, but still did not understand everything they were told.

Rather than ask Jesus to explain the revelations further so they could understand, they discussed it amongst themselves and to no avail.

Prayer – Lord God, I still have many questions about the Kingdom of God, would you explain them to me in a way that I will understand, please, in Jesus Name.

The other disciples – were surrounded by the multitude and having to deal with their needs. They also faced the questioning of the scribes concerning the teachings of Jesus.

They did not hear the Father's voice or the revelations or have the chance to ask Jesus questions about the future events. They were unable to answer the questions of the scribes or to cast out the deaf and dumb spirit.

Their relationship with Jesus was not as close as the 3 disciples and some of them were arguing about who was the most important disciple.

Some of them were arguing with the scribes. These disciples were more like Martha than Mary.

Prayer – Lord God, in the busyness of life would you grant me a heart that desires to seek after you above all other things, and the ability to hear your voice quickly and accurately, in Jesus Name.

A man with unbelief – This man had heard that Jesus could heal his son, but he did not believe the disciples of Jesus could do it. He had more unbelief than faith, but he had the desire to see his son healed and had brought him to Jesus. He was willing to set aside everything else to bring his son to be healed.

He did not realise the effect his unbelief had on the next generations of his family and instead of passing down blessing, he passed down a curse.

Prayer – Father God, give me a heart that believes your word and give me the grace to pass down blessings to my next generations. I ask that you forgive me for any unbelief in my life and grant me eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart that understands.

A son with a deaf and dumb spirit – all his life this young man had been oppressed by the devil. He could not hear; he could not speak and at times this spirit would try to kill him. He had a father that loved him but was powerless to help him.

In a moment of time, all this changed, the demon was cast out and he could hear and speak.

He faced a whole new future and challenge to embrace his new life.

Prayer – Father God, grant me the grace and the courage to step into the plans you have made for me. Reveal your promises to me so that I can breakout of everything that has limited me and grant me a heart that is willing to learn new things.

Scribes and pharisees – These were the religious leaders of that day.

When they came to where Jesus was, they came to argue, to accuse, to look for an opportunity to catch Him out. They were more concerned at disproving that Jesus was the Messiah than noticing the plight of a young boy who had been oppressed all his life.

They were more concerned about their position in society, the power, and possessions they could attain than ministering to the common people.

Prayer- Father God, grant me a humble and contrite heart that is content however my circumstances are. Grant me compassion for those worse off than me and the anointing to turn that situation around.

Unbelieving generation

In the busyness of daily life, it is easy to miss the quiet voice of the Lord God speaking His instructions for that day.

Manifestations of unbelief and deaf and dumb demons.

Deafness

Physical problem that prevents hearing.

Spiritual problem that prevents them hearing: -

  • Will not hear – a reluctance to listen -turning a deaf ear to the Word of God.
  • Listening to unbelief rather than faith.
  • Listening to lies rather than truth.
  • unable to hear voice of Holy Spirit or Word of God.

spiritual deafness can become physical deafness.

Generational curse intensifies...

Father had a spirit of unbelief.

His son had a deaf and dumb spirit and could not hear or speak.

Dumbness...

Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed - dumbah for lack of vision or revelation.

  • unable to speak……. Learning difficulties/ Autism / Downs syndrome
  • will not speak........ Faith, reluctance or little confession of word, lack of witnessing, testimonies, open preaching, not free in praise

The way the enemy destroys you is when you do not know what to say or you do know, but you do not say it.

Instead, you Speak words of unbelief doubt or fear.

Hinderances to hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit.

  • Deaf and Dumb spirit
  • Proud or haughty spirit
  • Blinding spirit
  • Stubborn spirit
  • Rebellious spirit
  • Witchcraft spirit
  • Spirit of confusion

Let us pray and separate ourselves from any connection to these spirits.

If you realise one of these spirits has been operating in you or your family, then when we pray, command that spirit to go from you.

Father God, we ask for forgiveness for listening to any demonic spirit, we break any covenant made with them and we ask that you cleanse us from all unrighteousness according to 1 John 1:9

Father, we separate ourselves from everyone we have ministered to or associated with, we renounce every demonic spirit, every curse and all spiritual contamination as we plead the blood of the Lamb over ourselves right now, in Jesus Name.

Developing the listening ear

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities; for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning's which cannot be uttered.

· Infirmity - So not knowing what to pray for or how to pray equates to infirmity. Infirmity is to be weak, lacking strength, timidity, shyness, to be sick.

We need to receive the Holy Spirit as our teacher; he teaches us how to pray.

  • 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in him.

Let us do that now, ask the Holy Spirit to be your teacher and receive Him as such, right now. This means you will have an inner witness to what is true.

· Build yourself up, be strengthened, and receive Holy Ghost boldness to pray how Jesus wants us to pray.

  • Jude 20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up, founded on your most Holy faith, make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher, praying in the Holy Spirit.

Rise like an edifice, can mean to increase the size of the building.

In our case, that can mean increase the size of our spirit so it can contain the vision God has placed in us.

So, we need to be like a pregnant woman and swell in size to contain that vision.

Prayer – Give us the grace and wisdom to pray the kind of prayers that build up the church.

Ask that you may be Baptised in the Holy Spirit and able to pray in the Holy Spirit.

· Ask for and receive interpretation of what you have been praying, so that you know what to pray for and how, as well as now having the strength, boldness, and confidence to pray effectively.

  • 1 Corinth 14:12 – 15 So it is with yourselves; since you are so eager and ambitious to possess spiritual endowments and manifestations of the Holy Spirit, concentrate on striving to excel and to abound in them in ways that will build up the church.

Therefore, the person who speaks in an unknown tongue should pray for the power to interpret and explain what he says. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

So, what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.

Let us do that now and pray that we may interpret!

Prayer – Father God, we see in your word that we should ask that we may interpret our prayer language, so we ask you now, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Let us pray in the spirit for a couple of minutes, then we will go quiet and listen to what the Lord is saying to us.
