Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:37,38 (KJV) When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Preparation for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

  • Repentance from sin
  • Baptism with water
  • Baptism with the Holy Spirit

Luke 3:16 (NIV) John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."

Do all Christians have this Baptism? Some say we all receive this at Salvation.

  • John 7:38 (NIV) Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
  • Acts 19:2 (NIV) and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

There were believers who had not received the Holy Spirit, because they had not heard about the Holy Spirit. As faith comes by hearing and they had not heard, they did not have the faith to receive the Holy Spirit.

  • Acts 1:4 (NIV) On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
