When His people begin to glorify Him!
Baptism of the Holy Spirit grants us a new language, which is not English, but a heavenly language, the spirit of glory wants to glorify God through us.
Luke 17:11 – 19 - Ten Lepers Pride – spiritual leprosy
V 15 Doxazo -
(Greek) -
to glorify -
praising God in a loud voice
We need to find the words to express our Thanksgiving, Praise and Worship for the God who has saved us.
Psalm 100:4amp Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving and His courts with praise.
Thanksgiving takes us into the Outer Court past the gate called the Way.
Praise takes us into the (Holy Place) past the gate called the Truth.
Worship takes us into the Holy of Holies past the gate called the Life.
Psalm 103:1Bless and affectionately praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is (deep) within me, bless His holy name.
Thanksgiving (eucharis) Hebrew concept is different to ours…
- Speak well about that person, to confess his name, testify.
- This means that you need to learn something about this person's actions, so that you have something to say about them.
Praise involves the learning something about this person's character.
Main Hebrew word used for praise is Hallal which can mean: -
Commended
Praised
Boast
Rave
Glory
Shined
Foolishly
- Hallelujah means to praise Yahweh.
- Describe them in a way that magnifies their good points.
- God has no bad points, so everything about our God is good.
- Pride wants us to focus on exalting ourselves,
- Humility wants to exalt someone else.
- There are many things that will try to stop us from giving Thanks and Praise to God in an uninhibited way,
- with boldness and confidence, we need to push past these things, which can be both spiritual and human.
Worship is our response to His Presence.
The release of what is deep within us towards our Creator.
But when we do push past and enter the kind of Praise that our God is looking for, it draws His presence closer to us, and His presence causes us to Worship, which enables our God to fill us with His presence even more.
His Holy Spirit …. the Spirit of Glory.
The consequence of being filled with His Spirit is that we have an even greater desire to glorify Him.
The Spirit of Glory wants to glorify.
Romans 4:20 RSV. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.
How to glorify God!
When we are praising our God by describing His character, how great, marvellous, and wonderful He is, we are glorifying Him. The problem is that most of us do not have a large enough vocabulary to be able to maintain this praise for long. We need some help.
Some Holy Ghost help!
1 Corinth 14:12 – 15 So it is with yourselves; since you are so eager and ambitious to possess spiritual endowments and manifestations of the Holy Spirit, concentrate on striving to excel and to abound in them in ways that will build up the church.
Therefore, the person who speaks in an unknown tongue should pray for the power to interpret and explain what he says. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
So, what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
When we pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit can give us more words to use to praise our God. This comes through the interpretation of the tongues we have been praying. But there is a deeper and more powerful way of glorifying Him.
I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. (understanding)
Just as we can receive the interpretation of the tongues that we pray, we can receive the interpretation of the tongues that we sing. This can be called the Song of the Lord or a new Psalm, a song never sung before, that comes by the revelation of the Holy Spirit.
This is the release of the glory God has filled us with, so that we can glorify Him.
Jude 20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up (edify, grow stronger), founded on your most Holy faith, make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher, praying in the Holy Spirit.
3 ways of stepping into this glory.
· Pray in the spirit until you notice your prayer is turning into song.
· Worship the Lord with a song you know and when that song finishes, continue by singing in the spirit.
The Lord has given us the Tabernacle and the Temple in the Old Testament to show us the journey from the physical realm into the spiritual realm.
In the Old Testament, only priests could enter the Tabernacle and only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies and only on the Day of Atonement.
Today, the good news is, every Christian can enter the Holy of Holies, through Thanksgiving, Praise and Worship.
But wait, there is even better news, our spirit is already there!
Ephesians 2:6 And He raised us up together with Him (when we believed), and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, (because we are) in Christ Jesus,
· Start by singing in the spirit.
The Kingdom Faith organisation that was led by Colin Urquhart used to start their meetings by saying "Let's go to heaven" and they would start to sing in the Spirit.
Hosting the Holy Spirit in our meetings.
- Prayer
- Convening
- Praise and Worship
- Communion
- Preaching
- Ministry
All meetings need: -
- Structure or order.
- Time designated for each section.
- Leader or Convener
- Preparation
- Protocol
In each section we need the sensitivity to recognise when the Holy Spirit wants to change what has been arranged.
If our order is tightly regulated by time constraints, then there may not be an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to speak into the meeting through a member of the Congregation.
We need to create time for this Holy Spirit intervention through the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Examples: -
- During Prayer Time
- At the end of Praise and Worship
- During Communion
- Testimony Time
- At end of Preaching
We need to create a way that our Congregations know how to operate in these Gifts in a way that is welcomed by our Church.
Examples: -
- Microphone available to Congregation members.
- Leader designated to oversee access to microphone.
- Way of recording prophecies etc.
- Leaders actively encouraging members to operate in the Gifts.
- Meetings to train and develop the use of Spiritual Gifts.
Activation Time
Pray in the spirit for a couple of minutes.
Go quiet and listen for what the Holy Spirit is saying to you.
Write down any revelations and what you believe they mean.
1st Activation – a love letter from the Lord to you, what does it say?
2nd Activation – a message for a member of your family.
3rd Activation – a message for one of your friends.
4th Activation – a message for someone you work with or meet often.
5th Activation – a message for your Church leader.
