Lesson 2

God is always speaking, are we listening?

The Rhema Word of God

  • Matthew 4:4 KJ Jesus answered "It is written, man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.

Proceedeth is in the Present Continuous tense, it is true now and continues to be true, just like a river begins and then continues.

  • Revelation 22:1KJ Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city.

There is always a word proceeding from the mouth of God, there is always living water flowing from the throne room. This is the Rhema Word of God for you and your situation.

This what you need to believe in your heart and say with your mouth, in prayer, prophecy, proclaim and decree.

It is up to us to be sensitive enough to hear what God is saying, to us and to others.

The other day I needed to retune the radio in my van as it had lost the station I like to listen to, so I pressed the search button and after a while I found Radio Stoke. There are certain times of day that I could manually search through the stations and stop when I recognise the presenters voice.

In this course we are challenging you to spend sufficient time with the Holy Spirit that you can recognise His voice. This will help you to develop strong faith as you are certain that you have heard from God.

If you want to be spiritually alive, you must receive your word for today, the one that is proceeding from God for you and for now.

Lesson 3

The purpose of the Prophet – one of the five-fold ministries

Ascension Gifts

  • Ephesians 4:8 When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.

5-Fold Ministry Gifts

  • Ephesians 4:11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service

Main purpose of these Gifts is to equip the saints for service.

  • Ephesians 2:20 …built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ himself as the chief cornerstone.

Foundational teaching, preferably as Church is being planted, but if Church already exists the Apostle and Prophet come in to establish Foundational principles.

  • 1 Corinth 12:28 And in the church God has appointed first apostles, second prophets, third teachers……. are all prophets?

Church Government order and distinction between Gifts.

  • Acts 13:1 In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers…..whilst fasting and praying they set apart Barnabas and Saul….

Recognition of calling and gifting by experienced ministers not by the person themselves appointing themselves to a position.

Prophets can be used in several ways: -

  • Direction –1 Kings 22:7And Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of Him?"
  • Correction – 2 Samuel 12:1 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
  • Declaration of Blessing or judgement – 1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word."
  • Revelation Knowledge – Acts 16:6-10, Acts 11:27 During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)
  • Foundation of churches – Ephesians 2:20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ himself as the chief cornerstone.

  • Impartation of spiritual gifts – Romans 1:11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—
  • Ordination of five-fold ministers – Acts 13:1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.
  • Administration of healing – 2 Kings 5:1-15 Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.

Lesson 4

Prophetic Presbytery

A Prophetic presbytery is a group of Prophets or prophetic people ministering together to a particular group of people.

The purpose of a prophetic presbytery can be for: -

Acts 13:1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

  • Prophetic revelation and confirmation
  • Ordination to five-fold ministry
  • Confirmation and activation of ministry
  • Aiding progress in Christian maturity.

Lesson 5

The spirit of prophecy

When the Spirit of prophecy begins to operate in a meeting, it can operate like a river flowing in or a wave rolling in. Many can be caught up in this flow and begin to operate in prophecy at a level they have never encountered before.

Congregation members that have not received the Gift of prophecy are able to flow in prophecy but once the spirit flows out of the meeting, they are no longer able to operate in prophecy.

When someone has received the Gift of prophecy, they can operate in that gift at any time but find a much greater flow and freedom if they are under the spirit of prophecy.

  • Rev 19:10 The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
  • Numbers 11:24-29 spirit rested on them they prophesied…
  • 1 Samuel 10:9,10 As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day. When he and his servant arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him; the Spirit of God came powerfully upon him, and he joined in their prophesying.
  • 1 Samuel 19:20-24 (KJV) 20 And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.
  • 2 Chron 20:14 - 15 Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly.
  • 15 He said: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's. 16 Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. 17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.'"
  • Hebrews 1:14 NIV Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

This can take place when: -

  • Prophets are gathered in one place. 1 Samuel 10:9,10
  • Prophet is providing training in spiritual gifts.1 Corinth 14:31
  • Prophetic presence amid the meeting.
  • Prophet challenges people to let God arise.
  • Job 22:28 You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; So, light will shine on your ways.
  • Psalm 68:1Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.

Lesson 6

Prophetic Preaching

This goes far beyond normal preaching:-

  • Spiritual gifts are in operation, laying bare the hearts of the people. 1 Corinth 14:25 And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.
  • Speaking directly into situations and circumstances that the preacher does not know about in the natural.
  • Declaring future events.
  • Connecting current events to the signs of the times and explaining the spiritual significance. Acts 2:16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

Lesson 7

Gift of Prophecy 1 Corinth 12

This is one of the 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit and is used for: -

  • Edification
  • Exhortation
  • Comfort

Practical tips on delivery: -

FLOW - How long and how quickly you speak?

ACTIONS - Does your body language match your word's?

CONTENT - Do you cover one topic or a number?

EDIFY - Are people built up by what you are saying?

How Prophecy comes - We ride on the wings of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit gives us: -

(1) Revelation....................we see, hear, or feel something from God

Ask for the interpretation, what does it mean?

(2) Interpretation.............understanding begins to come of what it means

Ask how to communicate this meaning?

(3) Delivery.......................How we minister this to the person.

Wrapped in love to bless them

(4) Edify…………………exhort and comfort….to build up the body

Lesson 8

Activation of prophecy in a Training Meeting

Using Driving Instruction lesson as an example

This is very similar to the method of Discipleship that Jesus used.

  • Instruction Short teaching to show it is biblical
  • Demonstration See and hear the gift in operation
  • Operation You step out in faith and operate

Prayer of submission to God and bind the demonic

We ask the Father in Jesus Name for the Gift of prophecy and then we thank Him for that gift.

Find a partner, preferably someone you do not know well.

Introduce yourself.

On the instruction, begin to pray, ask The Lord for something that will bless your partner, and then begin to pray in tongues, for about 2 minutes.

Stop praying and start listening, what is God saying to you for this person.

After about 2 minutes you will be asked to deliver what you believe The Lord is saying to that person.

When you finish the other person will now, deliver what they have for you.

There may be time for some feedback before you change partner and repeat.

There will be opportunities to prophesy in small groups, and if there is enough time to receive prophecy from seminar leaders.
